There are all sorts of ways to compare how inks behave, from the deck of cards on a ring to the dedicated paper-based blog - but this new solution to the age-old problem comes as a handy little notebook, in standard pocket size (90x140mm) too. One of the great things about this is that it really works. The paper is thick enough to test for bleeding, sufficiently high-quality to give a fair picture of performance re feathering, and the grid captures every lovingly obsessive point of order that one could wish for.

This particular pair of notebooks, dedicated to The Night Sky, neatly illustrate the constellations to be seen from north and south hemispheres of the planet. Admittedly Google Sky will do that too, but as the old tag-line has it: forget the app, there's a notebook for that.

How I use a Pocket Notebook.

Regular readers will have suffered through several posts on my battles with planning, here or here. Almost none of my planning is actually done in a pocket notebook.I use the smaller format books as an extension of my larger ones. Rather than a rigid format, my pocket books are very free-form. On one page there might be a task list and on the next a draft for a blog post. Sometimes, there might be a series of random doodles, or a record of an unexpected thought. 2018 Plans!

Welcome to 2018! I love Hogmanay. I always feel energised and optimistic as we enter a New Year. It’s a time to put aside the failures and disappointments of the year passed and learn the lessons that life handed out, however brutally. January is a month for making plans, drawing up project outlines and setting targets. I took over PoNo on the 1st of February 2017, so the end of the month will mark the end of my first full trading year too. Pencils are being sharpened and numbers crunched. 2018 is going to be busy here at PoNo Towers....
